Silicon Valley Summer Camp Planning Starts Now
It is starting already…summer camp planning. No sure when it started happening, but I have a stack of flyers and brochures on my desk that have somehow magically appeared. I've got a 8 and 12 year old. As a full time working mom, my kids have been to their our share of camps – dance, science, soccer, bike, art, football, drama and simply hanging out at a neighbors house. You name it, one of my kids have tried it.
As they have gotten older, both my kids and I have become more selective on where they want to spend their precious 10 weeks of summer. They are more discriminating about the food they are fed, the types of activities and whether the staff was engaging. The key is and has always been fun and keeping their interest, while not breaking the bank. In our house we have decided that for this summer each child would attend 2-3 camps and that we'd wing the rest. Gawd help us!
Last year my kids both attended the Galileo Summer Camps. I wasn't quite sure if they wanted to do it again, but when the camp promo flyer came in the mail the screech of joy that came out of my 8YOs mouth was enough to tell me she was in. The 12YO in his own "I'm a cool Junior High kid" way, also said he was "down" for attending. As I thought about their experiences at Galileo Summer Camp, I remembered how much science they were duped into learning and how impressed I was by the professionalism of their staff. While Kiley came home with face paint and played in the water, she also learned about the Renaissance and how to construct a grappling hook. My eldest BUILT a go-cart and learned improv and to dance. There were no complaints about heat, bad food or even whining kids. Now that is a win to me!
We're working on our summer plans now, and are definitely including Galileo Summer Camps. What are you signing your kids up for?
Disclosure: Camp Galileo sponsored my children's camp experience. All opinions about camp were all theirs and mine.
